Choosing a cozy bed for your dog or cat

From stretched-out naps to curled-up corners, choose a bed around the way your companion actually rests.

A beautiful pet bed can feel at home in your room while giving your companion a familiar place to settle. Start with how your dog or cat sleeps, then compare the details that make the bed practical for everyday life.

Watch their favorite sleeping position

Does your pet stretch out, curl into a ball, or rest their chin on an edge? An open mat or flatter bed offers a different sleeping space from a bed with bolstered sides. Cats may prefer an enclosed hideaway or a perch near a quiet window. Let their existing habits guide your shortlist.

Compare the usable sleeping area

Measure your pet in their usual resting position and compare that space with the product's dimensions. A bed's outside measurements may include thick bolsters or a frame, so look for the interior sleeping dimensions when available. Check any stated weight limit, especially for raised furniture and perches.

Then measure the spot where the bed will live. Leave space for your pet to get in and out comfortably. A tape outline on the floor can help you see how a larger bed will fit before ordering.

Read the cover and care details

Look for the actual care instructions rather than assuming every cover or cushion is machine washable. Some covers unzip; other beds have fixed upholstery or removable inserts. Check whether cleaning instructions differ for the outer cover and the filling, and whether replacement covers are listed separately.

Compare the materials, finish and color photographs with the room you have in mind. A blanket can add an extra layer of comfort, but it should suit your pet's preferences and the product's care guidance.

Make their new corner familiar

Place the bed in a spot your companion already enjoys. Allow them to investigate at their own pace. Keep the product's instructions and check the bed regularly for wear, particularly if your pet likes to chew fabric or pull at seams.
